The Railway Children Steam Special which raised £283,000.00 for international charity Railway Children in 2015.  As a complete sell-out, all 226 guests aboard the Belmond British Pullman Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express enjoyed a once in a lifetime opportunity – hauled by Merchant Navy Class Pacific no.35028 Clan Line. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception at Platform 21 London Waterloo where they were entertained by Scotland’s finest bag-rock band ‘The Red Hot Chilli Pipers’.  Nimble negotiated with the Port of London Authority to secure the closure of the  River Thames to Mariners and overhead flight to allow an amazing fireworks display as a surprise finale for all on board delivered by non other than Kimbolton Fireworks who are famed with delivering the  2012 Olympics pyrotechnics displays.

The Big Rail Diversity Challenge is Nimble latest event and launches in September 2016. Working with 'Women in Rail’ the team at Nimble have developed and will deliver a fun event attended by over 300 rail executives which will be a cross between “It’s a Knockout” and “Krypton Factor” consisting of a series of fun physical and mental team challenges with a ratio of 50% male and 50% female participating in each team. Bernadette Kelly, Director General, Rail Executive is signed to provide the opening address. Stamford Alumni and Parents was launched in June 2016, published on behalf of Stamford Endowed Schools three times per annum in line with term time. A 60-page glossy publication, Stamford Alumni and Parent is designed to be kept as both a point of reference and will be placed on coffee tables around the county. The demographic of the readership is ABC1 reaching households with high disposable income. ‘Quick, Quick….. Slow?’ The music hasn’t stopped but the tempo is likely to change. What impact Brexit will have on commercial property?

What a difference a week makes! Quick to vote to leave the EU, quick to lose a Prime Minister as a result ... what next? Well a long period of uncertainty and the potential for further external shocks are highly probable. We are not saying it is all doom and gloom but a slowdown in activity is almost certain whilst businesses take stock of what has just happened and we get some directions on what may lie ahead.

This is likely to take some of the heat out of the commercial property market across all sectors whilst businesses and occupiers review their position and plans. Landlord’s will be quick to disagree as will the larger agencies, who derive the majority of their fee income from landlords, however the reality is there will undoubtedly be a slowdown in the take up of stock, both offices and industrial/logistics and the much suffering high street, already under major pressure from ecommerce, will be fearful of an immediate belt tightening by their customers.

In the immediacy we anticipate that ‘headline’ rents will be slow to adjust, however landlord incentives for new leases, which were contracting, are likely to increase again and the present market uncertainties will once again underscore the need for occupiers/tenants to press for flexible lease length and opportunities for clean exits via tenant only options to break.

The need for clear and concise professional advice in relation to commercial property decisions, whether single transactions or the strategic management of larger occupational portfolios, has never been more important - what are the implications of whether the lease you are about to commit to is protected by the security of tenure provisions of the Landlord & Tenant Act or not? What is the potential impact of taking a full repairing and insuring lease? Does my lease contain provision to assign or sublet the premises in the future? The list of considerations is immense and the financial impact to your business potentially significant.

In what will become a more and more polarized market in the coming months/years unfortunately the potential for conflicts of interest will be even more likely and commercial occupiers should be alert to these at all stages of the transactional process.

New faces and fond farewells

Our new accountant Lisa Jones has joined us recently. Lisa comes to us with over 9 years’ experience in a practice environment with both accountancy and taxation proficiency.  She is looking forward to meeting all of our clients in the near future.

FreeAgent launches new iOS app

4 June 2014
A few weeks ago FreeAgent released its new mobile app for iOS making accessing your details on the go even easier. Using the app you can now create mileage expenses as well as traditional out-of-pocket expenses. You can now also rebill your expenses and mileage to projects with all the usual flair and finesse of the desktop version of FreeAgent. This means you can simply link expenses and mileage claims to projects, rebill them at cost, or add a mark-up and pass this on to the client.

Over the coming months FreeAgent will be working on more features including the ability to explain your bank statements on the go.

FreeAgent Mobile is FREE for all of our client so if you haven't already, head over to the App Store and download the app.

FreeAgent is an online accounting tool for freelancers and small businesses. Its easy-to-use format allows you to spend less time managing your books and get on with running your business.
